My name is Jerry Washington and I own “BRUSA” (my bike).  I live in Lutcher Louisiana about twenty miles north of New Orleans.  I have been a biker since 1979 when I purchased my first a 1979 Yamaha 750 special.  Those were my wild years when I did not have any fear or belief that I could fall or drop my bike.  Believe it or not I’ve never dropped one!  Of course those were my glory years but now I find myself on the backside of those youthful days.  Now old school return, that’s right, gray hair and feeling the sensation of mid-life (also called mid-life crises) yet still love the joy of riding.

Recovering from a divorce but facing single life again with optimism, I decided to get another bike.  When I purchased my bike I knew the moment I entered the showroom the bike that caught my eye was going home with me. I call him “BRUSA BUSA”!  Now at that time I knew nothing about the Suzuki Hayabusa.  All I knew was “this bile was tight”!  After closing the deal several of my friends told me about this fantastic motorcycle.  It has lived up to everything that I read and was told about it.
The Bike is a 2004 Suzuki Hayabusa Limited Edition.  My inspirations to change the stock Hayabusa to it present form, happen when I met Mike Hoolahan.  I met Mike the owner of Downsouth Kustoms through a fellow biker.  Mike did some work on his bike and it was enough to impress me. I also found out that Mike was the owner of a five time “Best of Show” Honda.  This was enough to convenes me this guy was the man that would do the best job on my Busa.  With the exception of both seats Down South Kustoms performed all the work on this bike.  Paint and mechanical!
There are no internal modifications of the engine and a single addition externally with a set of Yoshimura headers.   The most intensive work was done to the chassis.  First the stock swing arm was replace with a polished Trac Dynamics 300 kit.  The 300 includes a 300ml X 18 rear tire from Avon, Trac Dynamics club foot swing arm, 18 X 10.5 Forged rear wheel, and Vortex rear foot sets. Polished Hayabusa wave rotors were added to the front and rear of the bike.  After three months of search we found an eight-inch stretch tail section to compliment the extended swing arm.  Chrome oil and clutch covers, Chrome shift and break levers, Chrome throttle handles and clutch break lever.  A Polished triple tree with Kanji symbols on the Chrome triple tree covers.  Crown all this off with a Chrome Hayabusa ignition key.
After experiencing difficulty getting a color match of the stock paint I decided to paint the bike another color.  Candy apple red was selected.  The bike was then refinished and coated with a base coat, and two-coat overlay of candy apple red followed by two coats of clear to finish the skin. The faring is painted and follows the inside of the bike around the tank and into the dash area. The calipers were then painted candy apple to match the body along with bolts on the clutch and oil covers rear pegs, axel covers, break & clutch master solenoid and reservoir, and assorted bolts.  These items added an excellent high light look to the overall appearance of the bike.
The front folks, and frame were stripped and polished to chrome like appearance.  The front was lowered two inches, chrome “Air Ride” shock added to the rear.  This allows the bike to take on a really mean look both while ridding and especially when the rear is lowered while the bike is parked!
A custom Chrome dashboard and Chrome windshield adds to the look I want, two colors chrome and Red!  I was very interested in keeping my stock gas cap and since I did not want to chrome it or replace it with a chrome cap we painted it to match the tank (note allowing the bolts to stay polished).  After much discussion we made the change on the exhaust system by removing the Yoshimura can and placing a Chrome megaphone at the end of the exhaust collector.  The sound is awesome!
Much of the work was slowed because of hurricane Katrina.  The shop was damaged so the business has to relocate.  Not to mention personal property damage felt by all.  I evacuated my home and drove to Houston until the storm passed.  Because the bike was still under construction and fearing for the worse we decided I should take all my parts with me.  It’s was not a comfortable feeling having thousands of dollars worth of parts in my dually in a hotel parking lot.  Thank God it went off without incident.
When things return to some normal state, a decision had to be made about the seats.  We brought the seats to “Got It Stitched” a shop in Gonzales Louisiana.  After checking several verities of skins for color and texture I found an alligator hide that matched.  The workmanship is excellent, my instructions was followed to the letter.  I wanted the seat to take on a saddle like fit and Lance at "Got it Stitched" put both seats together with the Kanji symbol on the driver seat.  “BRUSA” which is the name of the bike, also on the high point of the drivers seat and “BUSA” on the high point of the passenger seat.
We finished the bike three day before the Texas “Heat Wave” Car, Truck and Bike Show.  We decided to enter.  This was a three-day event and the bike first showing.  When we took the bike from the trailer the sunlight hit the paint and it was like a nova.  The color burst through so brilliant it caught everyone attention.  Three reporters for different cycle magazines fell on it with a flurry of camera shots.  We estimate there was no less than a hundred spectators focus on the bike everyday.  Now I mush honestly say the final results of the event hit me like a bomb.  “We took BEST OF SHOW”!
Thanks for considering my story and showing the bike should you decide.
